Christmas Assistance

Each year at Christmas families in Mississauga and across Canada, struggle with high food prices and the cost of living, and they worry about how they’ll feed their children—not to mention afford Christmas gifts.  Some families are forced to decide between skipping rent, or skipping Christmas.  When poverty gives people an impossible choice, we want to be there to help!  In 2024 we supported  just over 1000 families with their Christmas needs.

Christmas Toy Program

So many families find that they are not able to provide gifts for their children on Christmas morning. In 2024 The Salvation Army assisted about 1000 families and distributed nearly 3000 age-appropriate toys, along with winter hats and mitts, to kids who otherwise may have gone without. If you have a need, or if you would like to help someone else, please call the local Salvation Army office nearest your postal code to inquire about either receiving or donating toys next year.

Food Drive

Corporate partners, schools, teams, organizations, neighbourhood groups and individuals, we are calling on you for support. Our three food banks serve over a thousand families every month and we rely on the support of our friends and neighbours to be able to provide for all the needs in Mississauga. If you would like to run a food drive at your workplace, service club or home, we would be most appreciative. Please call or email and we can provide materials for you to advertise and collect donations. It takes the whole community to care for everyone in it.
